Cranston St Kindergarten Relocation
New Port Lincoln Kindergarten blends nature play and coastal-inspired design, co-located with primary school to support early learning and community connection.
The objective of the project was to provide a new kindergarten facility located at existing Port Lincoln Primary School site to allow for relocation of a much-loved service. This service was relocated from the existing Cranston Street site in response to deficiencies with the existing facility and to take advantage of the proven benefits for children of co-locating kindergartens with junior primary schools.
The new building has an intentionally sculptural form to provide a distinctive identity for the kindergarten within the greater school site.
The building materials and form reflect Port Lincoln’s strong ties with the ocean, this is continued in the interior with finishes and colours invoking ocean and beach themes.
The Outdoor Learning Area was a pilot project for DECD Nature Play principles. The external learning space is a seamless extension from kindergarten building both functionally and visually. Trees, unpaved pathways, ‘watercourse’ sandpits lined with rocks and logs provide opportunity for creative play and interaction.
