Ambience Apartments

Four low-rise towers each consisting of mixed accommodation types over four levels with secure underground car parking.

The development site stood for many years as an unused council landfill located in a quietly progressive urban area of the western suburbs. Equidistant from the city centre of Adelaide and local coastal beaches an opportunity was emerging in plain sight. Having undertaken a first of its kind landfill remediation the 6.5- hectare site was transformed into much needed residential land.


The Ambience development formed part of a master planned project and comprised four buildings constructed over 2 stages. Each building accommodates a mix of single and 2-bedroom apartments over four floors.  Two of the buildings include penthouse apartments with outdoor terraces on a fifth floor.


A total of 148 Residential Apartments and170 secure basement and on grade carparks were included to service the residents and visitors.


Landscaped promenades linking the apartment towers, adjacent green space and a separate lifestyle village completed this precinct.


Each apartment tower is configured around a central core with lift and stair access to all levels from the basement carpark to the rooftop garden.


Balconies to each apartment open off generous living areas to enhance the sense of seamless indoor - outdoor space.


Penthouses located atop tower-3 and 4 provide a step up in quality accommodation and include direct lift access, master suite, two additional bedrooms, 3 metre ceilings, and spacious outdoor alfresco decks.


Built form is expressive and simplified by utilising a combination of contemporary and traditional elements. A monolithic blade element at the entry point to ‘ground’ the building is wrapped up to the parapet and the use of low profile hipped and skillion roofs create both uniformity and interest.


Materiality and finishes are a subtle combination of lightweight painted wall panels modulated to break up the external mass blended with expressed horizontal steel frames awnings and balcony edges.
