BWMH Day Surgery Upgrade

This project for the Burnside War Memorial Hospital enabled a completely new cutting-edge approach to day procedure services to be implemented. The project encompassed new preoperative and post-operative facilities which provided increased privacy and amenity for patients and enabled the hospital to maintain its lead in efficient, contemporary, high-quality health services. Central to the new day procedure unit is a pre-operative patient area with views over the heritage Attunga Gardens and a quiet environment where patients can undertake a range of activities, including working on personal devices, whilst waiting for their procedures in privacy. A new patient admission and patient flow process was planned to improve access to improve overall efficiency and reduce patient time within the unit. New admissions, patient recovery and discharge areas were also provided. The design enabled the new facilities to be delivered without disruption to ongoing services in the surgical suite and other areas. The new facilities have received overwhelmingly positive responses from patients, staff and surgeons.
